132 players begin first round Fourth Edition Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship 2021


Punta Cana, La Altagracia, D.R. March 26, 2021.- German Stephan Jaeger closed the first day of the fourth edition of the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship PGA TOUR with an impressive 66 (-6), followed by Joel Dahmen with 67 (-5) and Andrew Yun, who tied with Dahmen, presenting the same results. Six players managed to close with scores of -4. This is Jaeger’s first time participating in the tournament.

Jaeger, 31, made the first hole in one of the tournament, helping him reach his first position on the first day of the tournament, while the three previous championship champions (Hudson Swafford, Graeme McDowell, Brice Garnett) finished -2 (70), tying for 19th place.

Andrew Yun 67 (-5) made his first cut in his young professional career on the PGA TOUR in this same tournament in 2018, as well as Joel Dahmen, who finished his first round with a 67, tying for second place.

Likewise, Nate Lashley, winner of the Korn Ferry Tour – Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in 2017, finished with a 68, tying for fourth place; while Jonathan Byrd, a five-time winner of PGA tournaments, participates for the fourth time in the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship tournament.

According to the players, the most difficult hole was the 18th (par 4), the last hole on the course and known as the Devil’s Elbow, together with holes 16 and 17, and the easiest was hole 4, an impressive par 5 .

Dominican participation

Hiram Silfa finished with a 73 (+1), tying with the young Juan José Guerra. Willy Pumarol closed with 76 (+4) and Radhamés Peña (amateur) with 79 (+7).

About the Corales golf course

The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club, home to the Dominican Republic’s first and only PGA TOUR Event, was designed by world famous architect Tom Fazio.
