Samaná: humpback whales, waterfalls and virgin beaches
One of the most exuberant destinations in the Dominican Republic is the Samaná Peninsula or simply Samaná, located in the northeast of the Dominican Republic deep in the Atlantic Ocean and bordered by beaches of fine white and virgin sand.
Every year from the end of January to March, very special visitors arrive to Samaná, which are the humpback whales, who come from North America looking for the warmth of the Dominican waters for their mating and reproduction, thus preparing the new calves for the long journey of return.
The Los Haitises National Park is located in this area, a territory of 1,375 km 2 at the southwestern tip of the Samaná Bay. The name of the park means “land of the mountains”.
In Samaná there are paradisiacal beaches such as Rincón, Bonita, Cosón, among others. Most of the hotel complexes are located in the towns of Las Terrenas, Sánchez, Las Galeras and in Samaná itself.
Another of the emblematic places is the Salto Del Limón, which is located in the so-called Sierra de Samaná, about 300 meters above sea level, nestled between the green and exuberant mountains of this province, whose height is close to 40 meters .
But in addition to its natural and cultural charms, Samaná has a very rich gastronomy, a product of the mix of island and African influences that occurred in that area, whose dishes are mostly made with coconut milk. What a delight!
