Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort first Caribbean hotel with carbon neutral certification

The United Nations recently announced that the Aruba-located resort is the world’s first hotel to win the prestigious Global Climate Action 2020 award by obtaining the perfect Green Globe score.

This is the first time that a hotel has managed to win this award, in previous years this award was given to large companies such as Apple, Infosys and other projects supported by banks. This is how the UN is pointing to the hotel sector as an example to follow in terms of responsible and sustainable practices.

Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, Aruba is an independent property as it is not a stereotypical chain resort backed by corporate finance. On its own, Bucuti & Tara investigated, sought out and implemented sustainability initiatives that can be easily replicated and scalable, practices that sparked interest in the UN. Because of this, the resort will also serve as a beacon activity among the UN’s collection of inspirational and action-oriented resources that the organization invites others to refer to for their own sustainability trips.

“I congratulate the winners of the 2020 UN Global Climate Action Awards, who provide tangible proof that climate action is underway around the world,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “It is exciting to see these climate solutions, which reinforce my call for decisive leadership on climate change by governments, businesses and cities, for an ecological recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Let’s keep pushing to build a more sustainable and equitable future for all, “the official added.

“We are not in the tourism business, we are in the nature business”, is the perspective that Ewald Biemans, owner and CEO of Bucuti & Tara, always shares.

Achieve climate neutrality and travel further
Bucuti & Tara’s sustainability success openly invites others to use this as a key resource. The property welcomes both professors, students and researchers as well as foreign officials and industry associates seeking knowledge to implement green initiatives. Every staff member is trained and a part of the resort’s green operations, every supplier must comply, and every guest is invited to participate. Even with the current pandemic, Bucuti & Tara’s Sustainable Standard Operating Procedures place it ahead of others in testing and implementing a high-tech, hospital-grade COVID-19 security protocol that is so safe for guests and staff. as for the planet.

“I am deeply grateful that Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort has received the 2020 United Nations Global Climate Action Award for its Climate Neutrality Now. I invite all colleagues in the hotel industry to use us as a resource to get started somewhere. place and make sustainability a part of their operations. I guarantee that delivering a memorable vacation and sustainability can and should be mutually inclusive, “shared Ewald Biemans.
