Dominicana announces participation in Expo Dubai with DP World as main sponsor

Santo Domingo, DR July 6, 2021.- In an act headed by President Luis Abinader, the Dominican Republic formally announced its participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, where the country will be able to strategically promote its exportable product offer, its investment climate , tourist and cultural attractions, as well as the hospitality of the Dominicans.

This universal exhibition is one of the most important international events in the world, and aims to celebrate the creativity, innovation, humanity and cultures of the world for a period of 6 months.

Through this exhibition, as well as the activities carried out within the framework of its celebration, the economic, cultural and scientific growth of the participating nations is stimulated.

During the announcement made at the Convention Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the president was accompanied by the chancellor, Roberto Álvarez; and the Ministers of Tourism, David Collado; and Culture, Carmen Heredia. In addition, the director of ProDominicana, Biviana Riveiro; the Vice Minister for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugo Rivera; and the CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic, Morten Johansen.

President Abinader stressed that this international event will play a transcendental role in the economic relaunch of the country in the post-pandemic context, at the same time that it will contribute to expose and strengthen sectors that make up the Dominican economy, such as tourism, agriculture, the logistics Hub. regional and free zones.

Similarly, Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez stated that this commercial exhibition will lay the foundations to expand the presence and commercial relations with international allies, thanks to the public-private alliance made with DP World in the Dominican Republic and the support provided by the United Arab Emirates. , through which government investment in this fair is reduced to a minimum.

Likewise, the CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic, Morten Johansen, pointed out that with the signing of this alliance with the Dominican government, the company reaffirms its commitment to promote the country throughout the region as an interesting value proposition for multinationals , showing the many advantages and favorable investment climate that the nation has in front of thousands of participants and companies that will join EXPO Dubai 2020 from all over the world.

“Today, DP World reaffirms its commitment to continue being a strategic ally of the Dominican government. With the signing of this lasting agreement, we will generate new opportunities for growth and development for the country. Supporting our nation to achieve a successful participation in EXPO Dubai is, without a doubt, the correct step in this comprehensive strategy executed by the State and whose purpose is to reactivate the economy, ”said Johansen.

At the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as coordinator of the Petit Committee created to manage the country’s participation in this exhibition, signed a memorandum of understanding together with the CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic, by which the delivery is agreed of non-reimbursable technical and economic cooperation to the Dominican Government to cover the logistical and operational costs of our country in the international exhibition.

With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, DP World becomes the main sponsor of the Dominican Republic’s participation in EXPO 2020 Dubai, which is recognized as the event of the greatest transcendence and international relevance in the entire world.

At Expo 2020 Dubai, the country will run a dynamic calendar of activities, which will run from October this year to March 2022. Through these events, which include virtual tours, concerts, exhibitions, among others, the country will show aspects related to investment, export, regional logistics hub, culture and tourism.
