Holiday travel increases 15% in US

According to the Allianz Global Assistance Main Tourism Destinations Report of 2018, travel in the United States increased 15 percent this year-end season. The cities of New York and Cancun continue to be the most popular national and international destinations.

After reviewing the plans of the Americans to travel from December 19 to 27, 2018, Allianz Global Assistance discovered that once again the warmest international getaways prevailed, with Cancun, Mexico; San Juan Puerto Rico; San José del Cabo, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas; and Montego Bay, Jamaica, claiming the top five positions.

As the only non-tropical destination to reach the top 10 international, London ranked sixth, falling from second place last year, followed by Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Mexico City, Mexico; Higuey, Dominican Republic; and Aruba. This is the first time that Mexico City and Nassau, Bahamas, are included in the Allianz Tourist Destinations Report for international travel.

The city of New York returned to occupy the first national position, followed by Los Angeles, Orlando, Boston, Seattle, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City. Boston jumped to fourth place from tenth place, and San Francisco returned to the top 10 this year, eliminating Denver from the standings.

“Our year-end travel survey revealed that sales increased 15 percent compared to last year, with Mexico City, named World Design Capital® in 2018 by the World Design Organization (WDO), joining for the first time list, while Puerto Rico jumped to the second position, “said Daniel Durazo, marketing and communications director of Allianz Global Assistance USA. “Whether it’s a sunny beach or exploring a city, the busy holiday season can bring unpredictable delays or illnesses, it’s a good idea to protect yourself with the appropriate travel insurance policy as an extra peace of mind to get to your destination safely.”
