The brand experiences a great 2022, with news, openings and a very solid recovery in a short time.

Meliá Hotels International, the largest Spanish hotel chain, was at the new edition of the International Tourism Fair to present its novelties and open the doors to new business opportunities. Mitzi Torres, Director of Leisure for Mexico and LATAM, explained in a brief and pleasant dialogue the novelties of MHI, as well as the present and future of a brand that constantly strengthens and strengthens its presence in the region.

How do you see the recovery of the sector after the pandemic?
We know that everything in the Latin American region was one of the most restricted countries in terms of flights, permits, border closures and the economy, but the pleasant surprise has been that Argentina, despite all this, has been one of the markets that never stopped issuing for our properties in all destinations, mainly the Mexican Caribbean and Punta Cana. Something we saw is that the pandemic meant a change in travel trends and although the country was always among the first, this year it is became the first issuer in Latin America for our properties in general.

Any news you can tell us about?
We bring several novelties in the different destinations, mainly in the destination of Punta Cana, where by mid-December we will have several openings. We have our Paradisus Palma Real hotel, which was closed for almost three months due to a complete remodeling of the property and returns with new gastronomic concepts, incorporating swim-up rooms and the concept of The Reserve, which is only for adults, and Nikté for all ages. Palma Real has always been our flagship hotel for all destinations and now we are back at it again.
We will also be opening a theme park called Katmandú Park, which is generally for the destination of Punta Cana, but thanks to a joint venture with the company Falcon’s Beyond we are opening a new brand called Falcon’s Resort All Suites in Punta Cana in the that guests will have included access to the park, which comes with a Himalayan theme, ten virtual reality attractions and the latest technology to have fun, with an entertainment concept that encompasses both children and adults.
Regarding the United States, Orlando is also one of the favorite destinations of Argentines. There we have Meliá Orlando Celebration, which is 15 minutes from the parks and is located within Disney’s Good Neighborhood; the people who stay there have transportation to all the parks included and we are opening a restaurant called The Wilson, with a new gastronomic concept. We know that we must be very up-to-date with what people ask for and that is what we always try to do at Meliá.

Looking to the future, how do you see Meliá?
Fortunately, we are closing a very good 2022. We have seen a change in the trend, especially in relation to short-term trips. Our properties, especially in the Mexican Caribbean, are in very good demand, which allowed us to recover quickly in a fairly short time. What is 2023 comes with several opportunities, we are anxious because it is the summer season in Argentina and it is one of the most convening times to travel.
