The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, forecast a growth of almost 150 percent in the month of November compared to September, showing satisfaction with the signs of recovery and dynamism that the country’s tourism sector has been showing as a result of the actions implemented for the public-private alliance in the Responsible Tourism Recovery Plan.
Minister Collado made a visit to the headquarters of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), where he met with the board of the entity, led by Paola Rainieri and Andrés Marranzini, president and vice president, respectively who fulfill their functions in the 2018-2020 period.
The official expressed his satisfaction that the recovery of the industry without chimneys in the country is being seen gradually and sustained in alliance with the private sector and that for the month of December the protocols are being strictly observed both in the hotel sector as in airports.
Collado gave as an example of this reactivation that the Punta Cana airport for this week alone is announcing 159 flights, increasing its operating rate to 22 daily flights, which is a great satisfaction of the results achieved by the public-private alliance for the recovery of the sector.
“The recovery is being seen little by little, and the important thing is to continue working with the Tourism Cabinet, whose priority has been the health of the Dominicans and the recovery of the tourism sector,” he said.
Regarding these growth signs, the president of Asonahores Paola Rainieri defined as good news that the hotel occupancy for this end of the year is currently around 40 percent, although she specified that the situation regarding the arrival of travelers change at any time from the issuing countries.
He highlighted that among these achievements, hotel occupancy is showing a growth of 50 percent since the beginning of the pandemic, while in October the arrival of passengers increased by more than 34 percent. He also congratulated Minister Collado for the work he has done in 100 days, calling him a successful and great ally.
At the meeting, Rainieri made an account of the achievements and actions implemented together with Mitur in one hundred days of the Responsible Tourism Recovery Plan, including the main initiatives, agreements and the anti-Covid-19 Health protocols applied throughout the sector.
The president of Asonahores defined the broad agenda of activities carried out together with the Ministry of Tourism in the midst of the pandemic, as well as the intersectoral meetings held with different institutions for the recovery of tourism, of which she affirms have been true allies.
